The Fine Organ Combo
A Hammond organ with a Leslie speaker, and a young giant on drums.
The review
Pietro Fine brings his keyboard skills to the mighty Hammond organ with its rotating Leslie speaker. Music lovers will appreciate that the bass rotors turn in the opposite direction to the treble horns, giving the sound a unique spatial dimension. No imitations possible!
The group played excellent, laid-back, tasteful music. What a treat! Brilliant guitar from Lucas Zorzo, including several of his own compositions. Brilliant trumpet, trombone and serious vocals from Dave Stephenson: his “Solitude” was a stand-out, as was his moving feel for classical Spanish compositions.
Ben Cox, a young up-and-coming drummer, showed us what he can do, with sensitive accompaniment and thunderous solos trading fours. We will hear more of this young giant!
A welcome variation on the Great American Songbook routines we’re used to at our club.
