About
Keeping live jazz going in the Tweed since 1996
A not-for-profit club, staffed by volunteers, with one aim: live jazz and blues in the Northern Rivers.
The Tweed Valley Jazz and Blues Club was formed in 1996 with the support and encouragement of the then mayor of Tweed Shire, Max Boyd, who has been the club’s patron ever since.
The club is part of the Tweed Valley’s growing arts community, and an important link in the chain of live music venues where jazz musicians can play and express their own creativity.
Young musicians
When we can, we hold free workshops in Murwillumbah for local primary and high school students. Well-known national players passing through the area, such as George Golla, Don Burrows and John Hoffman, have happily led these sessions to encourage young musicians.
The club also sponsors the jazz categories at the local Performing Arts Festival and offers prizes to the winners. They are then invited to play an early set in front of an audience at one of our monthly concerts.
Members
Members pay a lower door price and receive our bimonthly newsletter with news of upcoming concerts. From these modest beginnings, the club has grown into one that is respected in the music industry and, above all, by jazz musicians everywhere.
